Our intention is development of a recreation and accommodation area with above average standard in one of the most prestigious parts of Bratislava. Upper Mlynská Dolina, where the recreational area should be located, belongs to important recreational and sport zones of the capital city of SR. The tradition of using this mountainous region with valley and river Vydrica for recreation, trips, punting, fishing and sporting in the nature is older than hundred and fifty years. Healthy and beautiful forest environment was also one of the reasons in 1940s to build sanatorium Železná Studnička here, which was supposed to be used by the army of SR, but was later used as a recreational centre for specific groups of population. In connection with later political and structural changes in health provision the sanatorium was deteriorating. The area of Sanatorium Železná Studnička is divided into two parts. In the eastern part, situated on the forest down slope is the sanatorium with gatehouse, garages and parking for vehicles. In western part along the river Vydrica is the recreational part of the Sanatorium with an outside swimming pool, small children pool, building with bathrooms, changing rooms, small canteen and outside sports grounds.
Investment purpose of the project Vydrica Baths is the reconstruction of the existing area of Sanatorium in Železná Studnička into an area of health with central building, recreational houses, recreational building and sports grounds. The proposed reconstruction is considering to use the area for recreation, relax and temporary accommodation for top clients. The new area should consist of three parts. First is the central building, which represents the original building of sanatorium, in which after reconstruction, should be the maintenance of the area, seven apartments and recreational-rehabilitation facilities including hydrotherapy. In the second, western part there will be a sporting, recreational zone. Original pool will be reconstructed, new children’s pool and various water attractions will be built. The maintenance building will also be reconstructed so it can be used as a base for both staff and visitors. The maintenance building will be connected to sports and other outdoors activities, summer restaurant and a nature trail. Third part of the area will consist of individual recreational houses connected to sports and recreational zone. Recreational houses are designed as three storied buildings with parking spaces and rehabilitation and relax premises. Outside spaces around the central building, recreational houses and sports grounds will be reconstructed and replanted, fixed with benches, bins and lighting. Recreation zone should take up 9 thousand square meters and is oriented to the sunny side of the valley. Water world, relaxation activities, catering, and space for various events should also be part of the zone. Also expected is the reconstruction a modernization of the existing area, swimming and recreational pool. Zone will get a new ramp, terraced cascades, children pool, sand relaxing beach with catering facilities, also a sunny part will be built in combination with grass spaces and sun beds. In the shaded part of the zone there will also be fireplaces. Throughout the area there should also be showers, changing rooms, restrooms, baby-changing facilities, first aid stand and a lifeguard. Bicycle parking spot next to the entry part of the area is also considered. Sporting zone is connected to the water world zone and experience zone. Also considered are grass areas, area for beach-volleyball, catering, and attractions on Vydrica, climbing walls, nets and services of instructors. Nature trail with footbridges and bridges over the stream, relax spaces and informational-educational points. The zone also offers ideal space for falconry. The experience zone is densely planted and is situated on a down slope. It will be used for scouting trainings and games, nature trails, wooden cabins and benches with a view to the valley.
