For me, Daffodil Day is a day of fellowship, expressing humanism and support to oncological patients. But it is also a day of contemplation about what we can do to stop the spread of cancer at this rate. Today, there is practically no one who would not encounter cancer. It brings fear, despite the fact that medicine can almost do almost miracles and brings the health back to patients, prolongs and betters their life. The thing that I as a doctor consider important is that the patients should find sufficient inner strength and resolve to fight this vicious illness. If they find this strength, the body is able to undertake the difficult medical procedures better and the prognosis of the illness usually improves.
Rastislav Velič, Arca Capital, financial and project manager
Within the frame of our project Ondrášovka, we actively support healthy lifestyle and, of course, we want to support a good thing. This mineral water is intended not only for patients who visit the Help centre of League Against Cancer, but also for their relatives, for employees, volunteers and other co-workers, who are engaged in the fight against this vicious illness. I personally contribute every year to the donation drive during Daffodil Day. Why? The number of patients is increasing, and therefore it’s a natural duty of us who are luckier to help those who have less luck in their lives… To the people with oncological illnesses I would like to relay the message of Lance Armstrong. His victorious fight with cancer and his sport accomplishments that he achieved despite the illness are a proof that it’s possible to win against cancer.
Daniela Mišurová, DHL, director
We are not indifferent. And that’s why we’ve been supporting oncological patients through the medium of Daffodil Day for past 8 years. Last year we decided that our 2 percent of taxes will be given to the foundation Hope of Martinko Sucháč, which was founded by his mom Zlatica Sucháčová one year after his death. It helps the ill and also organizes preventive medical examinations. And for several years we have been transporting biological material for analysis for Children’s faculty hospital. My personal motivation, and not just for support of this illness, are my children. I hope, that some day, also thanks to the resources expended for science and research (in our country, regrettably, in a very small scale), a drug will be invented that will free us from the fear of possible disease.
Andrej Tóth, ABB, country manager
The information confirming cancer brings a lot of hopelessness to the patient. Despite advanced medical procedures and qualified doctors, there is not enough information on prevention, diagnostics, and we should focus on that area. Daffodil Day is the largest public donation of its kind in Slovakia and big part of resources is directed into prevention and education. An important prerequisite for successful treatment is early diagnostic, and how many of us neglect it? I hope the sick will have faith and hope that their fight will be successful. Besides their families and doctors also the statistics should help – the occurrence of oncological illnesses is on the rise, but the success rate of their treatment is also strongly increasing.
Magdaléna Drsová, AVON, advertising director for Czech and Slovak Republic
Cancerous diseases are, unfortunately, affecting more and more people. Almost everyone knows someone who is an oncological patient and who fights this illness. That’s why we’re committing ourselves to this issue. Daffodil Day is a good opportunity for all of us to express our support and fellowship with people fighting cancer. I can imagine how difficult the life situation of oncological patients and their close ones must be. To talk and give advice is easy, but I believe that faith and positive thinking together with systematic treatment is the best possible combination. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for all patients in their fight.
